Masterpiece

Ephesians 2:10 "For we are God's masterpiece.  He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago."

A masterpiece is the best work of an accomplished, professional artist. The Mona Lisa - the Sistine chapel - the Masterpiece.

I've often pridefully read this scripture and thought that humanity itself was God's masterpiece - the best of all creation - but that is certainly not the truth, we are simply the imperfect piece of the puzzle.  The real art is God's fulfilled plan - the gift of Grace that makes humanity perfect at the moment we accept Christ.  The depth of this mysterious act of Grace is exhaustingly measurable and totally deals with the horror of our sin, yet to understand the practical life transforming qualities of Grace would be an infinite process fully grasped only by God himself.  A child could understand the simplicities of Grace yet the most brilliant mind couldn't begin to explain its complexities.

Instead of getting the hell we deserve, we get the heaven we don't deserve.  Thieves become pastors, prisoners become prophets.

The masterpiece of the first artist - the only real artist - is grace.
